A DOT drug test is performed under the Department of Transportation (DOT) authority and follows the regulations of 49 CFR Part 40, which details the procedures and processes for a DOT drug test. Reasons that a DOT drug test may be performed include pre-employment, random testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing. A Non-DOT test is not regulated by DOT and is normally requested by employers to ensure a drug-free workplace or environment.
